State Street Guide

Guide to Life at State Street

Whether you are looking to shop, dine, play, or just park, there are things you should know before throwing yourself into the midst of it all. First of all, over one hundred fifty businesses have come together to create a Downtown Madison gift certificate that is redeemable at all locations. These companies are located on State Street and Capitol Square and range from shops, restaurants, galleries, museums, cafes, and more. With no expiration date and change received in cold hard cash, the Downtown Gift Certificate is excellent for any occasion. Click to see the list of included businesses.

Before you get in your car and race downtown, you need to know where to park. Madison has over 5,000 public parking spaces downtown. One thousand three hundred of those spaces are on-street metered parking, and another 4,000 are in lots and garages. Madison offers a map of Public Parking and other City of Madison Parking lots and garages. Downtown Madison has City Parking News and even Real-Time Parking Availability, so you know what to expect before you even pull into the lot or garage! The police have an official statement regarding Vehicles on State Street.

Downtown Madison is home to many culinary artists and influential eateries. With the streets stocked with over one hundred food establishments being restaurants, bars, coffee shops, you name it, there is a new destination awaiting your arrival around every corner.

With four museums, two music venues, a theater, and a comedy club, there’s art on all avenues downtown. If you want to bring your kids to the Children’s Museum, your parents to the Veterans or Historical Museum, or that artist in your life to the Contemporary Art Museum. The Orpheum and the Majestic host bands and artists of all genres, while The Bartell Theater will host your performance drama needs. With ten resident art groups rotating performances at the Overture Center for the Arts.

All that is left is to use these resources and go out and live it.

Welcome to Madison.
